Should You Buy an Air Purifier?

For the past year, my family and I have been renting out my in-law's finished basement until we can get our own place. It's great down here; we have our own kitchen area, bedroom, living room...the only thing we don't have are windows. Because of that, it can get very stuffy since there is no fresh air coming in or circulating. A few months ago we purchased an air purifier, and we almost immediately felt the difference! The air seems much fresher and there's even less dust accumulating on our furniture.

The reason we bought an air purifier is just one, but there are many others.

Here are a few more:
  • They improve the health of your home: Air purifiers work to capture and eliminate many harmful pollutants and toxins from the air, including pet dander, cigarette smoke, mold, mildew, etc. The presence of these particles in the air can make a home unhealthy.
  • They can ease symptoms of asthma and allergies: This reason ties in with the one above. People with allergies or asthma can benefit from the use of air purifiers because they essentially clean the air, making it easier to breathe and without allergy-causing particles in it.
  • They are easy to buy and find: You can buy air purifiers in just about any store and you have even more options to buy online. They frequently go on sale, especially when allergy season is over.
  • There are lots of options: Believe it or not, there are many different types of air purifiers. Because of this, it is easy to find one that fits you and your family's needs. For example, HEPA air purifiers work great at removing very small air particles like pollen, whereas activated carbon purifiers work well at removing odor causing particles such as smoke. There are also certain types that work best for mold.
There are many other reasons, these are just a few of the most common ones. Do you have an air purifier? If so, why did you buy it, and has it made a difference?
