Review

I don't wear polish and have never worn nail shields before. With that said, I have heard many great things about Jamberry Nails, so I was excited when Kristin contacted me about doing a review and giveaway because this is something I would otherwise never try.

One sheet of shields comes with 18 shields 9 different sizes. I can tell you that nobody should have a problem finding a size that fits because there are so many of them.

The way they work, is that you peel one off and let a blow dryer's hot air blow on it for 10-15 seconds. You will see that it becomes flexible as it heats up. My dryer has two settings and I found it to work better using the hotter setting. After it's heated up, you put it on your fingernail where you can "mold" it to fit your nail, pushing it down into the side of the nail so nothing is "spilling" onto your skin, like polish does. I also like the fact that if you mess up, you can take the shield off and start over. For example, a few times the polka dots looked crooked, so I had to straighten them out. I do want to say though, that you need to be quick enough not to let the bond form on your nail.

After you have it on your nail, there will be lots of excess shield left. I took a regular pair of scissors and trimmed off the excess. I was surprised at how easy this was. The directions say to file down anything left, but I didn't have to because I was able to cut it so close to my nail. After you trim/file it, you then heat it up again using your dryer and add more pressure to it to ensure an extra tight seal. Also, you can save any excess you might have. I was able to do both hands using the same pieces of shield. They easily stick right back onto their sheet for later use.

I have to admit, it took quite some time to do the first hand. However, the second hand was done in about half of the time. I do feel though, that if it would have taken less time to paint my nails with polish, I would've had to wait for them to dry before I could type, clean, etc. There is absolutely no drying time with Jamberry Nails! A few nails had some air bubbles (at least I think that's what they were), and I was able to use another nail to push/scrape the bubbles out. This left no marks or scratches on the shield.

Once the shields were dry, I tried to see if I could take them off to test their strength. I'm happy to say they had a mighty strong seal. I think if I really tried to take them off, I would have pulled my nail right off with them!

I wore them for about two weeks before it was time to take them off to finish this review. Can you imagine how chipped nail polish would be after two weeks? I had no chipping on shields! In fact, they looked just as good as they did when I first put them on. I didn't have to take them off, nor did I want to, but in order to do a thorough review, I did.

There are several ways that you can take your shields off; using Olive Oil, acetone, and hot water. I actually didn't do any of those; I went back to the hair dryer. I was a little skeptical that they would come off easily. Well, I became a believer. I ran the hot air over each nail for about 20-30 second and while still warm, peeled the shields off. They came off with no problem! Another thing I was worried about was the condition of my nails. They were a little dry, but in pretty decent condition. They were completely back to normal by the next day.

Another thing I want to mention is that even though I got just one sheet, I was able to do both hands and have enough left over to do another round. I didn't even need to use the 3 largest sized shields, so I plan on cutting them smaller to do my daughter's nails. So, one sheet definitely goes a long way!
