I'm the only person I know who doesn't have a phone or media player capable of playing music, but I am constantly on my laptop. I love listening music while I work (ie. blog), but the built-in speakers sound horrible, so I usually wear ear buds when I turn on the music. The problem with this is that I also have my almost two-year-old son to keep an eye on and the ear buds don't allow me to be able to hear him. If I play music on the speakers though, I can hear everything just fine (as long as I'm not blasting it!).
That's how I would use these speakers, but there are so many other reasons anyone can use them. For example, connect them to your iPod while you're doing housework or use them while you're on Skype so you can hear every word. I don't think I've ever seen portable speakers that have amplifiers. My desktop computer has an amp, but it's so big it sits on the floor. I'm sure the sound that is created is amazing!
